Thirty kilometres from Bari, on the last hills before the Adriatic: a Norman castle, a Romanesque cathedral, a monastery ruled for centuries by remarkably powerful abbesses — and, just outside town, lakes in a land everyone imagines dry.
What to taste
Conversano is the home of the Ferrovia cherry. Add local olive oil, fresh bread, orecchiette and a long coffee break in the main square.
How long you need
Half a day covers the historic core. One full day adds the picture gallery and the karst lakes. Two days let you enjoy the countryside too.
